The Urban Greenery Department has developed the Greenery Adpotion programme, which allows volunteers to actively participate in the care of green spaces in the city. The Greenery Adoption programme allows participans to voluntarily go to public green spaces in order to beautify them and ensure their maintenance.

The programme eliminates:

  • spontaneous planting in public green spaces
  • the planting of allergenic and invasive species
  • the disturbance of protection zones of underground utilities
  • the planting of trees close to residential buildings and the violation of sanitary standards in terms of the shading of apartment blocks and the like.

Who can join:

  • active residents of the city
  • non-profit organisations
  • educational institutions
  • legal entities
  • business entities

Two options

  1. Option: greenery adoption by individuals (residents) and non-profit organisations
  2. Option: greenery adoption by legal and business entities

Conditions:

  • Green areas must be owned and managed by the city.
  • Green areas must be publicly accessible.
  • Participants must commit to looking after the green areas for at least three years.
  • Participants shall care for the green areas without receiving financial compensation.

OPTION 1

With this option, we want to support the activities of citizens who are interested in improving their city's environment without seeking any financial reward.

Option 1 is suitable for individuals who:

  • want to legally care for green areas owned by the city or who plan to do so in the future (e.g. home green areas and small green areas around residential buildings)
  • wish to take advantage of the possibility of receiving funding for the care of green spaces from various grants subject to the consent or cooperation of the landowner

The following procedure applies to this option:

  • The potential participant must fill in the relevant application form (the completed application form with attachments must be sent to Magistrát hlavného mesta SR Bratislava, Oddelenie tvorby mestskej zelene with “Program Adopcia zelene” written in the corner).
  • The Urban Greenery Department will review each application on its merits.
  • As an expert and methodological body, the Urban Greenery Department will assess the application in terms of things like the functional use of the area, the type of planting chosen, the location of the planting, the suitability of the species composition, and the choice of movable objects and their installation.
  • The Urban Greenery Department shall sign a Cooperation Agreement with the applicant in accordance with Article 51 of the Civil Code. The agreement shall specify the precise conditions to be met by the applicant.

OPTION 2

This option allows for the acceptance of offers from legal and business entities that are interested in beautifying the city within their capacities and financial possibilities, and who want to present themselves to the public in a different way than by advertising and causing “visual smog” on billboards. There are areas in the city that are not effectively usable as park areas. These areas offer a chance for interesting planting work to be undertaken.

Option 2 is ideal for legal and business entities and allows them to choose from one of the secondary options below:

  • The entity prepares a project which will be professionally assessed for approval by the Urban Greenery Department, and the entity then does the planting.
  • The project is developed by the Urban Greenery Department, and the entity then undertakes the planting.
  • The project is developed by the Urban Greenery Department, and the entity provides the city with the funds for the planting.

The following procedure applies to this option:

  • Interested participants must fill in the relevant application form (the completed application form with attachments must be sent to Magistrát hlavného mesta SR Bratislava, Oddelenie tvorby mestskej zelene with “Program Adopcia zelene” written in the corner).
  • The Urban Greenery Department will review each application on its merits.
  • As an expert and methodological body, the Urban Greenery Department will assess the application.
  • The city will enter into a cooperation agreement with the applicant pursuant to Section 262 (1) of the Commercial Code. The agreement shall specify the exact conditions to be fulfilled by the applicant and shall also stipulate the penalties in the event of any violation.
  • The city will enter into a Sponsorship Agreement with the entity, who will provide the funds for the implementation of the project pursuant to Section 262 (1) of the Commercial Code.
  • This option allows businesses to place a sign stating that the greenery in the area has been planted and is maintained by them as the relevant entity.

Note: No other elements that could present the business’s products and services can be placed on the sign or in the planted greenery. The sign will be in place for the duration of the agreement.
