The green environment includes not only urban forests, but also urban greenery in general. This is greenery accessible to the public without restrictions, located on the land of the city and its districts. It is an irreplaceable part of the urban organism.

It includes all permanent and short-term vegetation elements - trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and bulbs, grassy areas, mobile greenery or roof gardens.

Its importance is important from the point of view of: bioclimatic, hygienic, protective and insulating, architectural and aesthetic, but also cultural-educational and recreational.

What are the responsibilities of the capital city in ensuring the care and maintenance of greenery?

  • public greenery,
  • roadside greenery within the meaning of the Road Act,
  • also greenery near monuments and cemeteries, fountains, sports fields and playgrounds - through the contributory organizations GIB, Marianum and StaRZ,
  • over 3,000 ha of forest land -⁠ through the contributory organization Mestské lesy Bratislava.

The city issues the following opinions to applicants (based on Act No. 543/2002 Coll. on Nature and Landscape Protection):

  • consent of the land owner to fell trees,
  • consent to place replacement plantings,
  • opinions on garden design projects on land owned by the capital city.
