    Bratislava, 23 March 2026 – A trio of Slovak cities – Bratislava, Trnava and Nitra – along with professional non-governmental organisations – Združenie STORM, OZ Odyseus, OZ Prima and OZ KASPIAN – have been cooperating in the area of risk reduction and addiction prevention for a long time. Together they perceive and have repeatedly warned about the increasing availability of new psychoactive substances and the risks associated with them. Therefore, they welcomed the announced initiative of the Union of Towns and Cities of Slovakia (ÚMS), which wants to negotiate with the Ministries of Health, Interior and Justice on the growing problem of the availability of products containing new psychoactive substances. They are also complementing this initiative with specific professional solutions from practice.

    Stricter regulation of pawnshops

    Bratislava, 24 March 2026 – Local governments have once again addressed an appeal to the state in connection with improving safety in cities. They want to address the issue of pawnshops, which draw crime into an area and worsen the quality of life of communities living in their surroundings. The operation of pawnshops without clear rules frustrates the efforts and measures that local governments have introduced to improve safety and which city and state police are also involved in. The mayor of Bratislava today presented specific solutions for this situation while also appealing to the state to start implementing these measures as soon as possible.

    Bratislava, 20 March 2026 – Following the property tax, it is now possible to pay the municipal waste fee simply and quickly. The new feature in the Bratislava Account is intended for people who own or rent a house in Bratislava. Bratislava thus becomes the first municipality in Slovakia to allow the payment of the municipal waste fee online, directly through the Bratislava Account.
