Bratislava City Hall announces an additional investment in public transport: The city is starting the construction of a new tram line

Bratislava, 5 June 2025 – The capital city today signed a contract with a contractor for the construction of the new Patrónka – Riviéra trolleybus line. Field work on its implementation will start in the coming weeks. The new trolleybus line is another major investment by the Bratislava administration into the development of sustainable public transport in the capital city. As a result, the people of Bratislava will gain an additional 3.5 kilometres of new, healthier, ecological, electric transport and, in particular, a direct trolleybus connection from Dlhé diely in Karlova Ves to Trnavské mýto.
Since its construction in 2006, the trolleybus line to Dlhé diely in Bratislava’s Karlova Ves neighbourhood has been run only with diesel-powered trolleybuses, and diesel buses have replaced them during outages. Thanks to the new trolleybus line in Mlynská dolina, this so-called “island” trolleybus line at Dlhé diely will be connected to the rest of the trolleybus network in Bratislava, including the Hroboňova depot, which will enable the operation of emission-free trolleybuses along the entire route.
Matúš Vallo, mayor of the capital city, said:
“I’m pleased to announce another important project not only for a healthier life in our city, but also for better urban public transport. The new trolleybus line, which in just a few weeks will start being built from Patrónka to Karlova Ves, will directly connect line 32 Dlhé diely in Karlova Ves to Trnavské mýto, thus achieving better use of this ecological transport.”
With this investment, however, the people of Bratislava will not only gain healthier, ecological public transport without direct emissions instead of diesel engines.
Deputy Mayor Tatiana Kratochvílová adds:
“The project also includes the repair of pavements, the removal of barriers at crossings, the transfer of networks, the creation of a safer intersection at the ZŠ Dubová primary school, the expansion of the ZOO stop platform in the direction of Habánsky mlyn with a new 8-metre shelter at this stop, and new information boards at stops along the line. Public lighting and all affected traffic light intersections will also be modernised."
Operation of the new line will also be more economical, and on route 33 it will be possible to replace 12-metre vehicles with more capacious 18-metre articulated trolleybuses, which can hold up to 50% more passengers.
The contractor with which the capital city today signed a contract for carrying out the project now has a few weeks to prepare the construction, and the work itself, which is planned to take 9 months, could begin within a month. The city is, of course, interested in completing the project even earlier. The construction is 100% funded from EU funds, specifically from the Recovery Plan.
