Bratislava Front Garden Championships – “Bez burinky”

Bratislava, 16 April 2025 – The capital city has announced the first citywide Bratislava Front Garden Championships – “Bez burinky” (No Weeds). We are well aware of the importance of front gardens, how much effort, care and love people put into them. Therefore, we want to show appreciation for the people of Bratislava who often take care of front gardens over many long years, voluntarily and without any remuneration, thus making our capital city better, more beautiful and more fragrant for everyone.
As a city, we are constantly working to improve the quality of public spaces, because it is a well-known fact that the environment in which we live has a major effect on how we feel, the relationships we build, and how we experience everyday life. And thanks to front gardens, we feel more comfortable and more at home in our city.
Every front garden has its own charm and its own story. Therefore, the real champions of front gardening are all those who take care of their front garden with love. This is why we want to shine a spotlight on front gardens. In addition to this, front gardeners are also competing for interesting prizes in the Bratislava Front Gardening Championship. As many as 20 finalists will receive 200 euros, and the winners will receive the following prizes:
1st place 1000 € 2nd place 750 € 3rd place 500 € 4th– 6th place 300 €
How will the competition run?
Front gardeners can register during April at web majstrovstvá v predzáhradkárčení - bezburinky.sk ↗︎ or through the forms that we will gradually distribute to mailboxes. The jury will select a maximum of 20 finalists, and the public will then vote on the winners in May and June. We will then announce them at the festive Galapiknik v Sad Janka Kráľa (Gala Picnic in the Janko Kráľ Park), which will be held in mid-June.
Bratislava front gardens will be judged by a jury that, along with the mayor of the capital, Matúš Vallo, and the head of the Bratislava parks and gardens department, Zuzana Pšenáková, also includes famous faces: Slovak actor and presenter Juraj Bača, or perhaps the most famous grandmother on social networks, Blue Grandma. We are already seeing considerable interest in the Bratislava Front Garden Championship – a healthy rivalry has blossomed in the comments under the competition entries, which we are gradually publishing on social networks, and residents are spontaneously debating which city districts or streets have the most beautiful front gardens.
We would like to thank everyone who makes our city more pleasant. We want to recognise this, so we would be happy if as many front gardeners as possible would register for the Bratislava Front Garden Championship.
